Classic Car Insurance

I have a 1971 Corvette convertible with the big block 454. Man I love that car. Sometimes my wife will catch me out in the garage just staring at it. I have a few friends who have specialty cars and there is nothing more enjoyable than putting the tops down and cruising to Port Dover or some other quaint Ontario town for lunch with our wives.

I used to have a love hate relationship with my car. When I first bought it I spent more time on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck than I did driving it. I would tinker with it and get it running only to end up on the side of the road again. Eventually I had to decide whether to sell it or get the experts to do some work on it. I did my research and found an excellent mechanic who specializes in corvettes. I didn't want to do anything major just get the vehicle to the point where I could go on a road trip and trust that I wouldn't be left on the shoulder waiting for a tow truck.

If you own a classic car you know how that went. My new favourite word when talking to my mechanic was "mightaswell". You know - so long as you're fixing a whole in the floor you mightaswell replace the carpet. If you're going to fix the transmission you mightaswell just change the whole transmission out from a 4 speed to a 5 speed. Since you're rebuilding the engine you mightaswell give me all new chrome head covers.

Over time those mightaswells started to add up and the fairly low cost vehicle that I had originally purchased was now worth significantly more. It will never be rolling down the concourse at the Barrett-Jackson Auction but it's valuable to me and if it was ever damaged or destroyed I would want it repaired properly or replaced with something just like it.

Because of its value, your classic car deserves better insurance than the coverage provided for a daily driver. Think of this: your collectible car may just register as an older vehicle on your current auto policy. If an accident occurs, you could be left shorthanded when you try to replace it.

Classic Car Insurance is different from ordinary Auto Insurance because it's geared towards the actual collectible value of your car. It's one thing to be able to get another car, it's quite another to be able to replace your classic car.
